About us

Hey — we’re Lactose Free Table, and we’re really glad you’re here

This is a little corner of the internet for people who cook without lactose and still want dinner to taste like something worth sitting down for. No lectures. No mystery ingredients. Just recipes that actually work in a real kitchen.

Our purpose

Here’s the honest version of how this started. Lactose Free Table grew from a simple idea: lactose-free cooking should still feel like everyday cooking. Instead of complicated recipes or hard-to-find ingredients, I wanted to create approachable dishes that anyone could make and enjoy at home.

What we kept running into was the same frustration over and over: lactose-free recipes online were either bland and sad, or they called for a cabinet full of specialty products nobody wants to buy. We figured there had to be a middle path — food that happens to be lactose-free and just tastes good. So we started testing. A lot.

Our mission

Our job, plainly, is to save you the trial and error. We cook the recipe, we mess it up, we fix it, and we only publish it once it’s genuinely good — the kind of thing you’d make again without thinking. We write down exactly which substitutions we used and why, so you’re never guessing at the store.

We do this for one reason: cooking around lactose shouldn’t mean settling for less at the table. That’s the whole idea behind the name.

Our vision

Picture opening the fridge on a Tuesday, knowing you’ve got three or four lactose-free meals you can actually pull off without stress — and that they’ll taste great enough that nobody at the table thinks of them as “the special version.” That’s the world we’re cooking toward: lactose-free food that’s just, well, dinner.

And we want you in it. A lot of what we make gets shaped by what readers ask for. You tell us what’s tripping you up in the kitchen, and it usually turns into the next thing we test.

Our core values

We test before we tell

If a recipe hasn’t been cooked in our own kitchen and worked, it doesn’t go up. When something flops, we’d rather rewrite it than post it and hope. Boring? Maybe. But it’s why the recipes hold up.

Plain over fancy

We’d rather use an ingredient you can find at a normal grocery store than send you hunting for something obscure. When a substitution matters, we explain what it does so you can swap with confidence.

Honest about the flops

Not everything works. When a recipe took us five tries, we’ll say so — and we’ll tell you what went wrong the first four times, because that’s usually the most useful part.

Cooking, not counsel

We’re recipe people, full stop. We share how to cook lactose-free food that tastes good. We don’t give medical, nutritional, or dietary advice, and we don’t make health claims — for anything along those lines, a qualified professional is the right call, not a recipe blog.

Founder & Recipe Creator · Austin, Texas

Sofia is the one in the kitchen. She’s a self-taught home cook based in Austin who got deep into lactose-free cooking Lactose Free Table started with a simple idea: lactose-free cooking shouldn’t feel like a separate kind of cooking. I wanted to create a place where everyday recipes could be made without lactose while still feeling familiar, comforting, and genuinely enjoyable to cook and share. and never really stopped. Every recipe on this site is one she’s developed and tested herself, usually more times than she’d like to admit.

She writes the recipes, shoots the photos, answers the emails, and burns the occasional batch of pancakes for research purposes.

How we actually make a recipe

There’s no magic to it, just repetition. A recipe usually starts with a craving or a reader request. We cook a first version, take notes on what’s off — too dry, too bland, wrong texture — and cook it again. Once it’s reliably good, we write it up with the exact measurements and the substitutions that worked, plus the ones that didn’t so you can skip our mistakes. Then we photograph it and it goes live.

When we reference an ingredient or a swap, we’re describing what it does in the recipe — how it behaves when you cook with it. That’s cooking information, not a health statement.

Why trust us? (Totally fair question)

Honestly, don’t take our word for it — cook one recipe and see if it works. That’s the only proof that matters for a food blog. What we can promise is that everything here has been made by an actual person in an actual kitchen, written down carefully, and updated when we find a way to make it better. If we get something wrong, tell us, and we’ll fix it.

Our community — that’s you

The best part of running this site is hearing from the people cooking along at home. When you email us about a recipe that worked (or one that didn’t), it genuinely shapes what we do next. If you’ve cooked something from the site and want to share how it went, we’d love to hear it — the good, the messy, all of it.

Our promise to you

We keep our recipes and guides current, we correct mistakes when we catch them or when you flag them, and we’re clear about what this site is and isn’t. It’s a cooking resource. It’s not medical, nutritional, or dietary advice, and nothing here should be read as a health claim. For questions about your own health or diet, please talk to a qualified professional.

Let’s stay connected (we actually read our email)

The fastest way to reach us is email, and a real person reads every message. We aim to reply within 3 business days — sometimes faster, occasionally slower if we’re buried in recipe testing.
